                <p>You have, no doubt, been long expecting a letter from me, but you will excuse me,
                    for not writing sooner, for I have been buisied, by moveing my things, into my
                    new room &amp; placeing all things in their right order.</p>
                <p>I suppose that you recceived Mr <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Brodnax's</name> letter, several days since &amp; he told you about
                    your affairs in <name key="x" reg="x" type="place" rend="">Rockingham</name>, at
                    least he said that he did so, &amp; he also told you that <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">James</name>, <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Fred</name>, &amp; <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Rufus</name> had all joined <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="place">college</name> &amp;
                    that stood excellent examinations, <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Fred</name> &amp; myself room togather in an excellent room, <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">James</name> &amp; <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">George M<hi rend="sup">c</hi>Neill</name> room
                    in one not quite so good &amp; <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Rufus</name> has an excellent room, but has it with two other students so
                    that it is rather crowed, &amp; they all seem very well satisfied. <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">James</name> boards with the <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">doctor</name>, <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Fred</name> &amp; <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Rufus</name> with Mr <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Owen</name>,</p>
                <p>The students have had one frolic this session, &amp; two of them were
                    dismissed, but <pb id="unc11-09-p02" n="[2]"/>have been taken back again, at our
                    request, &amp; our pledgeing ourselves that we would never join in another
                        <hi rend="underscore">blacking club</hi> I mean a club to black the <hi rend="underscore">freshmen</hi></p>
                <p>As it is a very difficult matter to get books here &amp; then we have to
                    give double price for them, even if we get them from <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Turner</name> &amp; <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Hughes</name>, for he sells them much dearer here than
                    in <name key="name0000934" reg="Raleigh, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Raleigh</name> knowing that we are compelled to have the books, it matters not
                    at what price he imposes on us in that manner &amp; you will please to get
                    me a <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Leriza’s</name> French Grammar,
                        <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Meadows</name> French
                    Dictionary, Excerpta Latinis, <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Perrin’s</name> Fables, &amp; an Astronomy. — Please to
                    send them up as soon as possible, for we will commence them in a day or so.
                    These are not all the books which I will use this session, but I can procure the
                    others here at half price from the members of the last class.</p>
                <p>I have a lesson to get this evening &amp; the stage leaves soon &amp; I
                    must stop. D<hi rend="sup">r</hi>
                    <name key="pn0001194" reg="Mitchell, Elisha" type="person" rend="yes">Mitchell</name> has ten boarders &amp; it is very crowed there, &amp;
                    as I am the oldest boarder there, more is expected of me than the others,
                    &amp; that renders it not quite so agreable as formily.</p>
                <p>There is nothing else new or interesting</p>
