                <p> According to your request I write to you another letter before you leave <name key="name0000934" reg="Raleigh, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Raleigh</name>,
                    But I can scarcely write for the excitement, which prevails on account of the
                    course, which the election has taken so unexpectedly I must confess, though I
                    know that it is foolish, that I was never so excited in my life as I was on the
                    day of the election, for I supposed that I was on the weak side, but time h
                    shown otherwise, &amp; I saw so many mean &amp; low stratagems, made
                    by the other side, I mean, the <name key="name0001229" reg="Whigs" type="organization">Whigs</name> to put us down, that I could but help. to
                    the best of my ability, to make such means of no avail, &amp; I have just
                    as much right to say as any one else that I was the cause of <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Alison<hi rend="sup">s</hi></name> election,
                    for I procured him one vote &amp; caused another man, as he would not give
                    it to him, to throw his vote away &amp; I also turned, by some mean, D<hi rend="sup">r </hi>
                    <name key="pn0001194" reg="Mitchell, Elisha" type="person" rend="yes">Mitchell</name> &amp; Mr <name key="pn0000510" reg="Fetter, Manuel" type="person" rend="yes">Fetter</name>, from strong <name key="name0001229" reg="Whigs" type="organization">Whigs</name> to <name key="name0000281" reg="Democrats" type="organization">Democrats</name>, though it was often
                    they had voted for the whole federal ticket. We have just received a statement
                    that Gov. <name key="pn0001229" reg="Morehead, John Motley" type="person" rend="yes">Morehead</name> had lost in the two counties of <pb id="unc11-10-p02" n="[2]"/><name key="name0000434" reg="Granville County, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Granville</name>
                    &amp; <name key="name0000449" reg="Guilford County, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Guilford</name>, I suppose you know that <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Jones</name>, <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Brackin</name>, <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Stockham</name>, &amp; <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Nash</name> are our commoners &amp; Mr <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Alison</name> our Senator, elected only by one majority. &amp;
                    who knows but that one vote which I got for him was the cause of it, but to come
                    to the truth of the matter I am neither <name key="name0001229" reg="Whigs" type="organization">Whig</name> or <name key="name0000281" reg="Whigs" type="organization">Democrat</name>, but a strong <hi rend="underscore">
                        <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Jones</name> man</hi> or to give
                    him his appropriated name, I am for <hi rend="underscore">little <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Cad</name></hi>.</p>
                <p>Brother <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Brown</name> was here some
                    few days since with Miss <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Sarah
                        Simpson</name>, who was on a visit to her sick friend Miss <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Rolarts</name> of <name key="name0000707" reg="New Bern, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Newbern</name>, I went to see her
                    several times, &amp; she told me that Sister <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Catharine</name> intended going up home on some day
                    last week &amp; that <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Mama</name> would accompany her to <name key="name0000484" reg="Hillsborough, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Hillsborough</name> on the
                    ensueing Saturday.</p>
                <p><name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Fred Brodnax</name> received a letter
                    from <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">John</name> the other day
                    &amp; he said that all were well &amp; that <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Travis</name> was to come back to <name key="x" reg="x" type="place" rend="">Haw River</name> by brothers <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Brown</name> &amp; <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Sterling</name>, who I beleive, expect to go up in a
                    few weeks. Col. <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Jones</name>
                    &amp; his family are going up to<name key="x" reg="x" type="place" rend="">
                        Rockingham</name> next week, &amp; they intend staying several weeks.
                    Mr <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Green</name> has gone to Mr <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Cameron's</name> today,</p>
                <p>On the receipt of your letter, I immediately went to the book store &amp;
                    endeavoured to get the books but he did not have any one of them so you will
                    please to get me, as soon as he procures them, <pb id="unc11-10-p03" n="[3]"/>a
                        <hi rend="underscore"><name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Leviza's</name> French grammar</hi> &amp; a <hi rend="underscore"><name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Meadow'<hi rend="sup">s</hi></name> french Dictionary</hi>, I expect I can procure the others
                    here, or else where,</p>
                <p><name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">George M<hi rend="sup">c</hi>Neill</name> received a letter from <name key="name0000362" reg="Fayettevill, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Fayetteville</name> &amp;
                    all were well there Please to give my best respects to Judge <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Cameron'<hi rend="sup">s</hi></name> family
                    &amp; to <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Mrs Taylor'<hi rend="sup">s</hi></name> also. I suppose Miss <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Elinor Boylan</name> has not returned yet, We are all
                    well &amp; join in love to you. </p>
