From Investigation to Implementation

Building a Program
for the Large-Scale
Digitization of Manuscripts

Welcome

Extending the Reach of Southern Sources
and the Thomas E. Watson Papers Digitization Project

From 2007 to 2009, two concurrent projects at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Libraries, Extending the Reach of Southern Sources: Proceeding to Large-Scale Digitization of Manuscript Collections and the Thomas E. Watson Papers Digitization Project, explored different yet complimentary elements involved in the building of a large-scale archival digitization program at the Southern Historical Collection. This website provides access to the documentation produced by the two grants.

Information from the Extending the Reach project can be found under the Legal Considerations, Selection, and Sustainability sections of this website. Information from the Thomas E. Watson Papers Digitization Project can be found under the Digitization & Access section. Additionally, documents such as slide presentations from symposia, data dictionaries used in the Watson Papers Project, or the full report of the Extending the Reach project, can be found under Publications and Presentations.
