About this Item
Title | Martin Brinegar Cabin |
Date | September 1, 1941 |
Description | Photograph shows the Brinegar cabin and shed, prior to restoration and surrounded by overgrowth, near Doughton Park in section 2C of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Taken by Thor Borreson in September 1941. |
Commentary | This photograph offers an interesting juxtaposition to what the landscape looked like after the restorative work of the National Park Service. It would be difficult to know how the landscape appeared when Martin and Caroline Brinegar resided there, but this representation of the property is very different than what a visitor would see in 1975. The manicured landscape that appears in the 1975 photographs illustrates that many changes were made in order to make the Brinegar Cabin site more attractive for visitors. |
