About this Item

Title North Carolina And The Parkway
Date June 28, 1934
Description Extensive editorial which lays out a case for the Parkway being built along the route proposed by North Carolina officials (through Western North Carolina and near Asheville). Emphasizes the economic hardships faced by the rural poor living in the mountains of W. N. C. and argues that the Parkway would benefit these residents most of all. Specifically addresses the increase of tourism that came with road construction in the 1920s and the decline of this tourism with the onset of the depression.
