About this Item
Title | First Parkway Crossing of NC 18, Near Sparta, NC |
Date | July 22, 1936 |
Description | Photograph shows a hill with a small building on it, an unpaved road, and a truck driving on the road. Taken somewhere in section 2A of the Blue Ridge Parkway. |
Commentary | The road running diagonally from the bottom right of the image is the Blue Ridge Parkway. Running horizontally is NC 18 that runs between Sparta (west) and Mt. Airy (east). It is somewhat difficult to determine whether the Parkway would run up the grade in the center of the background, or if it was going to continue to the left around the trees. |
