Civil Air Patrol - World War II Memorial, Manteo
The Civil Air Patrol Memorial commemorates the volunteers who served during World War Two. The memorial consists of a four feet square granite panel on a one foot high granite base. The panel face is almost entirely covered by a bronze tablet with the names of all who served during the war and inscriptions. At the tablet top left corner is a three blade propeller symbol of the Civil Air Patrol. At the top right corner is a Coastal Patrol Base symbol that shows a bomb dropping towards a submarine. Atop the main panel is a smaller piece of granite roughly in the shape of a trapezoid with CIVIL AIR PATROL COASTAL BASE 16 incised along with the depiction of a single engine patrol aircraft. Above the aircraft are three lines depicting clouds. Several feet in front of the memorial is a concrete pad with several other memorial tablets.
