    The Harkers Island Veterans Memorial is black granite panel on a single dark grey base. The panel has slightly larger lectern shaped cap. Along the lectern face are incised Coats of Arms for the Army, Navy, Airforce, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The cap’s flat face holds the inscription “IN HONOR OF OUR VETERANS” in white lettering and flanked by a cross on each side. The panel face holds nine columns of veterans’ names to include those who lost their lives and the remaining inscriptions. The approximate size is six feet wide and four to five feet tall. A single flag pole stands behind the memorial. The memorial is approached by a single sidewalk from a parking area and is decorated with tiles related to a coastal area such as fishing and sea gulls.
