Iredell County Veterans Memorial, Barium Springs
This monument honors the armed forces veterans who have served the United States. It is composed of an obelisk-like base covered with a mosaic of local stones. A bald eagle with outspread wings, the symbol of the United States of America, is perched atop the obelisk. The center of the obelisk contains a rectangular plaque with an inscription. This plaque is flanked on the right and bottom by medallions representing each of the five branches of the armed forces (Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard). The upper left and lower right corners of the plaque are bound by bas-relief eagles perched on mounts bearing the Latin phrase Pro Patria, translated as "for country". The eagle in the right corner carries an unfurled American flag.
