This monument was Rockingham County's second Confederate monument, with the first Confederate Soldier Monument dedicated in 1910.
A number of Confederate graves are located in Greenview Cemetery in Reidsville. As such, the monument is located near several of these graves. The city deeded a plot of land in the cemetery to the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1925 to use for Civil War veterans and their descendants.
The monument is located in Greenview Cemetery at 1004 Montgomery St. in Reidsville, NC where it stands in a row with Confederate graves. A few feet away stands the 1910 Confederate Statue relocated to the cemetery in 2013 from its previous location at the intersection of W. Morehead St. and N. Scales St. in Reidsville, NC.
The monument stands on the Greenview cemetery lawn, a grass area with little other foliage. As it is located in a cemetery, the monument is also surrounded by graves and a variety of grave markers.
As part of the process associated with this monument, a plot of land was deeded to the United Daughters of the Confederacy by the city of Reidsville in 1925. This plot of land is where the monument currently sits. The Rockingham County Chapter of the UDC began saving for the monument in 1953 but was not able to put the monument up until 1956.
