Mitchell County Veterans Memorial, Bakersville
The memorial to Mitchell County veterans of all wars is in the form of a granite shaft roughly
four feet tall that narrows as it rises, much like a short obelisk with a flat top. The front is
polished with rusticated sides and back. It stands on single base with polished top and
rusticated sides. The polished face features an incised American flag at the top. Beneath the
flag is the crest for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The crest is also incised with: VETERANS OF
MITCHELL COUNTY OF THE UNITED STATES.
