GOVERNOR CASWELL TO COL. JOHN SMITH.

In General Assembly, 11th Febry., 1779.

Resolved, that it be recommended to his Excellency the Governor to send the British Prisoners now in Johnston County to some place of safety, and where nothing is to be apprehended from their insiduous attempts to disaffect the subjects of this State or to remove their slaves.

In pursuance of the above Resolution Col. John Smith is required to remove under Guard the prisoners above mentioned, to the Town of Halifax, there to be paroled by any two Magistrates of the County of Halifax to the Limits of that Town. Kingston, 5th March, 1779.
