[From Tryon's Letter Book.]
Letter from Governor Tryon to Lord Barrington, Secretary at War,

Brunswick 29th July 1766.

I have the honor to acquaint your Lordship that Capt John Dalrymple, Commander of Johnston's Fort in this province died the 13th inst in the said fort. As his commission for the above command was from his Majesty, I have issued a new one under the seal of the province to Mr Robert Howe, (a gentleman of this province) to succeed him till his Majesty's pleasure is further known. As your Lordship was so obliging as to assure Colo Boyd that if the Command of the Fort should become vacant it should be given to my recommendation, I beg leave therefore to renew my solicitations for his Majesty's Commissioner in favor of Mr Howe and to remind your Lordship of your intended goodness to me

I am with esteem &c
