Mount Pleasant, Oct. 22nd 1778.
Sir:
I received your letter dated Kingston 16th Oct. 1778. The orders therein contained comes very unexpectedly, as I have never heard of the Enemy's movements to the Southward. I beg leave to assure your Excellency that every thing in my power shall be done in compliance with them; and shall let you know every thing of consequence in the course of this business by Express.
