GEN. R. CASWELL TO GOV. ABNER NASH.

Newbern, Oct. 26, 1780.

Sir:

The General Assembly in May last did me the Honor of appointing me to the Command of the Militia then ordered into service; they also thought proper to appoint me one of the Board of Commissioners for Carrying on Trade for the benefit of the State. In their late Session they were pleased to Dismiss me from the Command of the Militia, And 'tis probable they would also have Dismissed me from the Board of Trade had it occurred to them that I had been appointed a Member. As it is not in my inclination to give that Body displeasure, and as I have not received any money from the Public on that Account, or entered on the Business otherwise than by Barely Qualifying, I flatter myself your Excellency will be pleased to accept my resignation of the appointment of Commissioner of the Board of Trade, and consider this as my resignation accordingly.

I have the Honor to be,
With great respect, Sir, Your Excellency's
Most obedient & very Humble Servant,
R. CASWELL.
