Most of North Carolina's currency during the war was produced by firms outside the state. This 1861 two-dollar note was printed by the firm of F.W. Bornemann in Charleston, South Carolina. Notice the serial number and serial letter (C) at the top-left portion of this currency. These are the two most important characteristics for identifying a piece of paper money. The letter records a note's precise location on its original multi-image printing plate. |
