North Carolina State Issue, 1862
NC Fifty-Dollar Note
Liberty Standing; Written date "Jan. 22nd, 1862."
This vignette of the Roman goddesses of freedom and agriculture is identical to that used on variations of North Carolina's three- and five-dollar notes. See (below) the reverse of this note. It reveals that this money was printed on the backside of old North Carolina bonds on which "FIFTY DOLLARS" is overprinted. These characteristics classify this type of note (NC-74C) as rare.
