Documenting the American South Logo

North Carolina State Issue, 1863
NC 10¢ Note
Printed date "Jan. 1st, 1863."
This note is identical in design to its 1862 counterpart. Although fractional currencies were produced in the South until the latter stages of the war, their usage became impractical as the prices of goods and services skyrocketed and the need for notes of far higher denominations were needed. Literally handfuls of fractional notes were needed by 1864 to buy small amounts of even the most basic supplies.
