Manly, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of
the University of N. C.:
Sir,
I am instructed by the Faculty of the University to
state, that they deem it proper, and consistent with the established usages of
the Institution, to lay before the Executive Committee the enclosed
ticket and resolutions.
I have the honor to be, Most respectfully, Your obedient

Resolutions adopted by the Faculty of the University of North
Carolina at the regular meeting held May 4th. 1866.
"Resolved, That the President state to the
Ball-Managers the unanimous opinion of the Faculty, that the placing of the name
of any gentleman upon the list of honorary managers without his consent
previously obtained, is grossly improper.
Resolved, That in the present circumstances of the
country, the selection of those who have recently been conspicuous in public
affairs, is like to expose the Institution to
underserved suspicion." of the want of the spirit of loyalty which they
profess and feel.
