The Boone Society and descendants of Israel Boone and his wife.
Denny Custer, President of the Boone Society, presided over the dedication of the Israel Boone memorial marker at Joppa Cemetery.
Joppa Cemetery is one of the oldest and most historic graveyards in Davie County. In addition to the Israel Boone gravesite the burial grounds contain the graves of his parents Squire and Sarah Boone. Israel is the brother of Daniel Boone who lived near Bear Creek during his teens and early twenties.
The Cemetery is located off Highway 601 in Mocksville. The Boone gravesites are located in the back section of the cemetery beyond a low stone wall accessed through an iron gate.
The site is surrounded by shady mature trees and graveyards.
