Commentary | Conrad Louis Wirth (1899–1993) joined the National Park Service in 1931 and was its director from 1951 to 1964. Waterrock Knob is located along Section 2X of the Blue Ridge Parkway between Jackson and Haywood Counties. It is the highest peak in the Plott Balsams range with an elevation of 6,292 feet (1,918 meters.) A hiking trail leads to its summit and a visitor center. |
