About this Item
Title | Near Aho |
Date | December 20, 1934 |
Description | Photograph shows a view of a landscape near Aho, North Carolina, in section 2F of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Taken on December 20, 1934. |
Commentary | This picture, taken in 1934, was probably taken to show a possible route for the Blue Ridge Parkway. The area appears barren, however, and no area on the Blue Ridge Parkway has so few trees -- when compared to pictures after its completion, one can see that the Blue Ridge Parkway was landscaped. The picture shows what the landscape looked like during the winter months. It also appears that there are several tree stumps. Timber was a major source of income for much of western North Carolina and there was a lot of deforestation in the area. |
