About this Item
Title | Before grading. Cave-in on 1:1 slope. Will continue to slide unless flattened. Needs rounding. |
Date | July 25, 1938 |
Description | Photo shows a soil cave-in on a slope. A car stands on the road. Taken by "MAB" on July 25, 1938, along Section 2A, Station 381+50, left/ahead milepost 224. |
Commentary | Along almost the entire length the Blue Ridge Parkway is constructed as an undivided two-lane road, a process which required alterations to much of the landscape during road construction. Most steep embankment slopes have been flattened to prevent cave-ins like that pictured. |
